Visitor Communion Policy

If you are visiting with us today, welcome to Peace United Reformed Church! We are so excited you have joined us in worship today! At the conclusion of our service, we will be celebrating Holy Communion. As a visitor, you are welcome to participate in Holy Communion if you are able to acknowledge that you are a faithful member of a Christian church. This means that you can affirm the following:

1. You are trusting in Jesus Christ, by faith alone, for the salvation of your body and soul. (John 14:6; Acts 2:37-38; Acts 4:11-12; Acts 10:43)

2. You have been baptized in the name of the Triune God: of God the Father, and of God the Son and of God the Holy Spirit, in accordance with Jesus’ command. (Matt. 28:19; Acts 2:38-39)

3. You have publicly professed your faith in Christ, in agreement with the articles of the Christian Faith as outlined in the Apostle’s Creed, before the Elders of your local church. (Matt. 10:32-33; Rom. 10:9; 1 Tim. 6:12)

4. You are seeking to live a godly life in fellowship with Christ’s church. (Ps. 51; Matt. 5:6; Eph. 4:1-3; 1 Peter 3:10-12)

If you can affirm all these statements, then you are welcome to partake of Holy Communion.

If you cannot affirm all these statements, we must ask you to abstain from participating in Holy Communion. If you abstain from Holy Communion, we encourage you to use this time to pray. Ask the Lord: (1) to work true faith in your heart to trust in Christ alone as your Savior, (2) to work boldness in your heart to profess faith in Christ before your Elders, and (3) to work a new obedience in your heart to love Him and to love your neighbor as yourself. We also encourage you to spend this time reading scripture. We recommend: Psalm 23, Psalm 51, Luke 22:14-23, John 6:22-59 and 1 Cor. 11:17-34. As Ministers and Elders, we desire “to act honorably in all things” and “to do all things decently and in good order” (Heb. 13:18; 1 Cor. 14:40).
