Merciful God, thank You for keeping watch over me last night. As I face a new day, may I fix my eyes on Christ as my only hope and Your glory as my only aim. You alone are worthy of this glory because You are the very author of my life, the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists. The heavens declare to all Your wisdom, power, goodness, and faithfulness. Yet my highest praise is reserved for the great deeds of redemption that You have worked for me a poor sinner. Bound in my sin, suppressing the truth in unrighteousness, by nature a child of wrath even as the rest, I have nevertheless heard the good news that You have delivered me from slavery, freed me from the condemnation of Your just law, and brought me new life from above. Even as I face my ordinary tasks this day, recall to my heart the extraordinary comfort of Your promise. Grant also, I pray, the strength of Your Spirit to live out the calling You have given to me and all people as creatures made in Your image. Make me a fit vessel for Your work in this world this day—a sacrifice of thanksgiving, well pleasing in Your sight and a light that shines before my neighbors. All of this I ask in the name of Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
